"Umm..." Kathy was wearing a short robe, her arms full of brightly-patterned fabric-and, yes, legs going on for roughly miles. "Would someone mind helping me with this? I'm used to a hanbok, but yukatas are entirely different creatures."

Dante, you were free to offer but Kathy knew better than to try to let you 'help.'

Rika was wearing a similar robe herself, with similar legs, and she looked over from where she was leaning against the wall watching the proceedings and grinned. "I'm not involved in this whole hair thing, so I can give you a hand if you want."

Oh yeah. Not that Kathy was ever campaigning to be the hottest girl in the room, but even if she had, she would have ceded the title to Rika immediately upon meeting her, anyway.

"Thanks," Kathy said, holding out the yukata she'd been loaned for the occasion, unconsciously stroking the fabric as she did. It was beautiful. "I might need help with the hair, too. If that's okay. I want to do this right."

"Of course!" Rika's tone turned teasing. "By the time we're done with you, Mikan is totally going to be insisting you keep this since it'll never look as good on her."

"I heard that!" Mikan snapped, laughing.

"Good!" Then Rika reached out for the yukata and held it up. "Come on, then, Kathy, let's get you all wrapped up."

"At least I'm used to being told what to do when it comes to fashion," Kathy said. "Ringo, have you been back to see Letty since we went this fall? Have you seen how bossy she gets yet?" Trying to hide a grin she added, "Reminds me of a friend of mine. Tiny, Japanese, argumentative..."

Ringo's answer was to stick her tongue out at Kathy only to get the back of her head smacked lightly by her sister. "Quit that," Mikan demanded.

"You know someone else from Japan?" Ringo asked after a moment. "I didn't know that!"

"Yeah, it's funny cause I don't," Kathy informed her primly, standing still so that Rika could work her magic. "By the way, did we get Dante to agree to a kimono yet?"

"I think that's going to have to be a group effort," Ringo sighed. "I wasn't even sure how to bring it up with him!"

"Have you thought about 'Hey, Dante, wear this kimono, it's traditional'?" Kathy asked. "I mean, you know, it's the first thing I thought of, but it seems like it might be helpful."

"Because Dante always does what I tell him." Ringo rolled her eyes. "I can't believe I forgot about that!"

Rika snorted as she slid the sleeves of the yukata over Kathy's arms and started wrapping the rest of the fabric around her properly.

"How about 'I bet Rika would think you're hot in it'?" Kathy suggested. "Bet that'd get him at least thinking about it."

Ringo laughed, trying to hold herself still so she didn't mess anything up. "I did notice the way he looked at her," she allowed. "So if that's where we start, what do we use to push him over the line to agreeing?"

Dante? Dante wandered in way late into the morning, and not from his bedroom. His hair was mussed and he was wearing the exact same thing as he had last night.

It was probably better not to ask.

"What's up?"

"We're getting ready for the festival," Kathy said, trying to not visibly smirk at him. "You know, with the New Year and everything?"

"There's a festival?" Dante asked, squinting.

Not so much because he was genuinely wondering about that. More because he had a hangover.

"Yep," Kathy said. "Don't worry, though. Ringo made sure to get you a traditional men's yukata to wear!"

Dante had no idea what that even meant, but he still shrugged. "I got fresh pants," he said, "I'm good."

Because Dante hated all things cultural apparently.

"Dante, it's New Year's Eve! In Japan! You can wear those pants anytime. Do you have any idea when the next time you'll be able to wear a yukata without me yelling 'cultural appropriation!' at you? Probably never! Seize the opportunity! I am." She smiled at him, a very smug smile. "My dad would flip out if he saw me like this."

"What the fuck is a yukata anyway?" Beat. "And what's your dad got to do with it?"

Untrue! ...Though since the yukatas were made of silk, he technically wouldn't be wrong in this instance.

"It's like what we're wearing," Kathy said, gesturing to her own yukata. "But you'd wear the guy version. It's not half as uncomfortable as a corset, I'm sure." And she'd seen you in one of those, Dante. "And my Dad is a bigot and really hates, well, all of Japan. So having me, here, wearing a something cultural would really just stick in his craw."

It was like a giant 'fuck you!' That, you know, he'd be unaware of, but details.

"Yeah, but the corset's hot," said Dante, who possibly had different criteria for clothes than some.

... though he'd seen Kathy in that dress last week, so maybe not.

"... Though hey, we should take a picture of you in that and send it to your dad."

"We are not giving my dad a heart attack on New Year's Eve," Kathy said sternly. "He'd just recover and drag me home from school. I'm still convincing him that's a terrible idea after Eliot punched him over Parent's Weekend."
