Heaven's Arena, Two Continents North of Yorknew City

"You know, the floor of the blimp wasn't that bad a place to sleep," Ringo announced. And then immediately belied her claim by grimacing as she stretched to pop her back again.

Once she was feeling a little bit loosened up again, Ringo looked around. "Too bad we don't really have time to really explore the city. I mean, this place looks like it's got as much neat stuff going on as Yorknew City did." But their wallets were pretty much empty, and Ringo really wanted a room and a bed to sleep in tonight.

Ringo's eyes swept the city skyline, then went wide. "Whoa! Is that Heaven's Arena?" The building was huge.

"Do you think that, after we've made enough for a hotel, we can AirTrek on it?" Hopefully that wouldn't be against the rules.

"Yeah," Alluka said, peering up and up at the huge building. "That's Heaven's Arena."

It would be amazing fun to AirTrek it.

"But Ringo, you don't get a hotel room elsewhere when you're at the arena. You have to earn a room in the arena."

Alluka had been doing her reading while on the blimp.

"Oh!" Ringo grinned. "That's convenient. I take it that you just have to pay with it from whatever your winnings are?"

"That's what it sounded like," Alluka said, eyes fixed on the arena. "So the first few floors you don't get a room at all. If you win or if you lose on the first floor, you get the prize money of a drink."

And then got to try again!

"I don't think we'll get up to the top."

Given the Floor 200 hurdle that she had no idea about yet... yeah, they weren't going to make it to the top.

"Well, it is really tall," Ringo allowed. "So it probably takes a lot to get all the way to the top."

She pursed her lips. "If the first floor just gives you a drink, I hope it doesn't take too long to get high enough to, you know, pay for things."

She wasn't worried. Yet.

"We're already here," Alluka said optimistically. "Did you want to look around for a bit? Or head straight to the arena and see how it works?"

"Well, I really want to look around, but we should probably head straight over just to make sure we have enough time to get settled into our room. Like, what if there's a big line, or it takes a while, or something?"

Every so often, Ringo was responsible. Hopefully Alluka wasn't too shocked.

"That makes sense," she said, shifting a little. "After all, it sounds like the arena's a really big deal."

It had been an absolute disaster of a week. Dante felt like shit. And Dante was back on the island, really feeling just how few of his friends were left around there.

So he rang one of them.

Alluka, 'cause they hadn't talked in a while.

(Shit, he just wanted to hear a friendly voice that wasn't Anders.)

This was so exciting! Two phone calls in two days!

It was worth holding back from the arena a little to see who it was!

He wasn't feeling all that chipper, but it was hard not to mirror back her excitement.

That was a voice she hadn't heard for a while! Sorry, Dante, for that squeal of excitement.

"Dante!" He couldn't see it, but she was bouncing. "It's been forever! Hihihi! How're you? Ringo and I are on a roadtrip! And we slept last night on a blimp! And now we're two continents away from everything else we've seen!"

"Eh, I'm alright," Dante said. "Sounds like my life's not as exciting as yours right now, though. Where you at?"

"We're in my world," she said, letting him get away with not telling her anything. "And, and we're going to see how we can do in Heaven's Arena, which is where people fight for prizes. Ringo says it should be okay, but I'm probably going to be terrible."

Oh well. She snapped a picture of the outside of the arena and sent it to him.

"Look how big it is! Ringo says I'll do alright in the tower but she's always like that."

Alluka paused, her eyes going huge and apprehensive, as she stopped just inside the doors.

Oh dear.

Well. Well--Ringo thought it'd go okay.

"Eeeep."

"Whoa," Ringo breathed, coming up short right beside Alluka. "I guess, um, we should have known it'd be this big, right? I mean, considering how big it is outside?"

Ringo took another couple of seconds to take it in. She half-wondered if AirTrek was going to get this, well, impressive back home. It had all been underground for so long that it was hard to imagine something so big dedicated to one event.

And this was just the first floor.

"Do you see anywhere that looks like the place to get started?" Ringo asked, finally tearing her eyes from the main floor to look around.

It took another few moments before Alluka tore her gaze away. She was pretty sure this was going to hurt.

"Ummm. Oh! Look--that looks like a kiosk over there!" she said, pointing near the wall. There was a line up of people, but none of them were buying treats or anything. "Maybe there?"

"Worth a try." Ringo was looking thoughtful as her gaze turned back toward the main floor.

"Do you want to watch a few rounds before you sign up yourself? I mean, I can probably take care of our room and stuff for now if you want to take some time to practice for this."

Now that she was here, this place seemed a lot more serious than she'd imagined.

Which, given the size of the arena, what else exactly had she been planning?
